Year 9 Options

We have high aspirations for our students and aim to ensure they have access to a broad and balanced curriculum throughout their time with us at Parklandshs. This is why we have designed the options choices to give each student appropriate challenge and depth of study throughout Years 10 and 11.

Information about all of the subjects can be found in our options booklet, along with an introduction to the process; the booklet can be found here.

The options will be selected through the StudentPortal. It has a widget that will take you to an electronic form. Parents are able to view this on MyChildatSchool. The forms will open on Wednesday 7^th January and close on Monday 9^th February. I would advise you not to submit your online form until after the parents’ evening on 5^th February.

The Importance of Thoughtful Choices

Choosing your options is a key milestone. The subjects you select now will shape your learning journey over the next two years and can have an impact on the opportunities available to you after Year 11, whether that’s further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

Why a Broad Range of Qualifications Matters

We strongly encourage you to select a broad and balanced range of subjects. This approach will help to:

• Keep your future pathways open, a wide selection of subjects ensures you have more choices later on.
• Build a range of skills and knowledge, different subjects develop different strengths—analytical, creative, practical and more.
• Find what you enjoy and excel at, this is your chance to discover new interests and talents.

Discussion and Support

Making these decisions can feel daunting, but you are not alone. We recommend:

• Talking with your parents and carers, they know you well and can help you weigh up your options.
• Speaking with your teachers, they can provide insight into what each subject involves and where it could lead.
